About the Oliver voice
Oliver is the younger, lighter British voice: conversational, a little quicker off the mark, and comfortable with contractions. Where George sounds like the institution, Oliver sounds like someone who works there and likes it.
The engine behind this voice
Kokoro is an 82-million-parameter open-weights model under Apache-2.0 — the cheapest capable engine available by roughly an order of magnitude, which is what makes this tier free at all. It takes up to 5,000 characters per request, adjusts from 0.75× to 1.5×, and returns MP3 or WAV. Longer text is split at sentence boundaries and joined back into one file.

Where Oliver is the wrong choice
The lightness cuts both ways: on grave material — obituaries, safety briefings, legal notices — he sounds too comfortable. And like George he is standard southern British, not a regional accent.
If Oliver is not quite right
- George — british, authoritative — the same price as Oliver, with a different character. Worth previewing back to back before you commit a whole script to either.
- Miles — american, relaxed. Reach for this one when Oliver is close but the register is not quite right.
