Free here means free to use, not a trial that expires. There is no countdown, no card on file, and no feature that stops working after a week.

Where it ends, stated plainly
The free voices are open-weight models — Kokoro-82M and Chatterbox — which we can run cheaply enough to give away. The premium and ultra-HD voices are commercial engines billed per character, so those cost credits.
That line is the only one that matters: if the free voices sound good enough for your work, nothing on this site will ever ask you for money. Generate a sample above with your own copy rather than a marketing script, and you will know within a minute which side of the line you are on.
Why "unlimited free" is usually not true
Text to speech costs compute per character, every time, with no caching to hide behind. So when a tool advertises unlimited free speech synthesis, the cost is being recovered somewhere you cannot see — ads, rights over the audio you generate, aggressive quality throttling on the free voices, or a limit that exists but is not published.
We would rather give you the number and let you plan around it. If 5,000 characters a day is not enough, credits are a one-time purchase that never expires — not a subscription that resets and bills you monthly whether you used it or not.
